Bryan Ferry

Our new unit in Music is all about local artist Bryan Ferry. Today we spent some time conducting our very own research into who he is, where he is from and what his style of music is all about. We thoroughly enjoyed finding out about him.

Van Gogh

We are really interested in our new unit all about Van Gogh. Today we learnt about how Van Gogh used lines to create depth and texture in his paintings. We used a viewfinder to sketch out part of his paintings and used lines with colour to add different elements of his style.  We are looking forward to being able to recreate some of his famous pieces of work in future lessons.

Sunflowers

During Art we have been looking further into colour mixing to create shades and tints. Using our skills from the previous lesson we sketched some of Van Gogh's sunflowers and used tinting and shading to mix the colours to give the desired look.

Little Red Riding Hood

During Literacy we have moved on to our new unit of newspaper articles. We have read the story of Little Red Riding Hood and we have sequenced the events in the correct order and explained what happens at each part of the story.

Dress the Queen

What a fun morning we have had in a whole school competition to dress the Queen. We researched different outfits the Queen wears and then created our very own outfit working as a class. The final result was outstanding. We loved creating some brilliant fashion ideas from the dress to the shoes to the crown.

Wheat Production

Our new unit in DT is 'Seasonal Foods'. Today we enjoyed learning about the production of wheat and then we enjoyed making some fairy cakes. We weighed all of our ingredients mixed them together, baked the cakes and decorated the cakes with icing.  They were delicious!

Colour Mixing

Today we have been looking at how we can mix colours together to create shades and tints. We used a selection of colours to create a colour chart showing how we can alter the colours to suit what we need. We look forward to using this skill even further in our painting work.

Making Graphs

In computing we have been learning how to create graphs using Purple Mash. We inputted some data into a spreadsheet by creating a chart. Then using our understanding of how to create graphs we produced a line graph to display the results.

Shang-a-Lang

To celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee we have been learning the song Shang-a-Lang by The Bay City Rollers. We enjoyed learning the song over the past few weeks and then performing our song with our pom poms for the whole school. We were amazing!

Sketching Starry Night

We thoroughly enjoyed Art today. We have been looking at how Van Gogh used lines to sketch his famous pieces of artwork. We looked at the picture Starry Night and had the choice to sketch the piece in colour or pencil. The level of concentration and attention to detail has been amazing.

Safety Works

Today we enjoyed a visit with Year 3 to Safety Works in Newcastle. We took part in workshops helping us to understand how to stay safe around dogs, in the sun, around water, roads and fire safety. We enjoyed participating in the different workshops and have a good understanding of how to keep safe!

The Water Cycle

During Science we have been learning about the water cycle. We have been developing our understanding of the key words evaporation, condensation and precipitation. We worked in groups to draw out the full water cycle and then presented our poster to the rest of the class.

Bunting Competition

We have enjoyed participating in a bunting competition where we have been making bunting based on our hopes and dreams for the world around us. We shared our ideas and then created some beautiful pieces of bunting which will be entered into a competition. Fingers crossed we might have the winning piece!

Ice Cream

To continue our Jubilee celebrations we enjoyed wearing red, white and blue. We all enjoyed either an ice cream or ice lolly on the school yard from the ice cream van who visited us. He even played his ice cream van sound for use. It was incredibly loud but the ice cream was delicious!
