PSHE - Knowing Myself and Setting A Realistic Goal

During our first week of PSHE in Spring term, our theme was ‘Knowing myself.’ We changed over teachers and sat with our group and our new teacher. We each discussed things which we are good at and also reflected on things we are not so good at or some things we want to   improve on. We came up with ideas such as, “I would like to be a better friend” or “I want to keep improving with writing my letters” and also “I want to show better behaviour in Nursery and Reception.” We all thought of something which we would like to improve about ourselves which would be helpful for us in our next PSHE session.

In our second week of PSHE we set ourselves a realistic goal which we aimed to achieve within the oncoming week in  Nursery and Reception. We each told our teacher what we would like our goal to be based on our weaknesses that we had highlighted in the previous PSHE session. After setting out goal, our teacher wrote it on a football for us. After we had all set our goals, we then took turns around the circle and shared how we could each work towards achieving our set goal. Lastly, we went and stuck our football on the football template—around the outside of the goal. We were told that once we achieve our set goal we can come back to the goal post and score a goal with our football by sticking it into the goal. This shows that we have achieved our goal.

Internet Safety Day!

We have been talking about how people use the internet and social media to stay in touch with friends and family, sharing thoughts and pictures with each other in a class discussion.   We learned about ‘stranger danger’ through the story ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and other traditional  tales. The children showed some good understanding and delivered some good answers to our questions to help them think about what they ‘should’ and ‘should not do’ to help them to stay safe. The children got dressed up to act out what they might say as ‘good’ and ‘bad’ characters to help them understand this better.

Well done Reception for trying hard to understand how to be safe on...

Ball Skills

In our P.E lesson we have been practising our ball control skills. First we sat down with a ball and practised rolling it on different parts of our bodies using one hand then the other. We then rolled it up our arm round our neck and down the other arm. We then tried hard to roll it around our backs then through our legs. We then worked in pairs to practise controlling rolling the ball to each other making sure we didn't roll it to far. After gaining better control we played  a game. We got into teams and had to run with a ball then stop half way and roll the ball into the hoop, some balls made it into the hoop some did not quite make it and some rolled so far. Finally we sat in a big circle and shouted the name of a friend opposite us and tried really hard to roll the ball directly to them. We have really enjoyed the last few weeks practising our ball skills it was such good fun!!        Well Done Reception!

Space Activities

We have been learning all about Space in Reception and we have enjoyed many activities around our classroom. Some of us have been creating fantastic space related items using our construction blocks, some of us have been creating aliens and rockets using play dough and different materials. Some of us have been working very hard creating rockets and aliens in our creative area we are really proud of all our creations and have really enjoyed learning and listening to stories all about space!!

Chinese New Year!!

We have been celebrating Chinese New Year here in Reception and to celebrate we have been tasting various Chinese food such as spring rolls, rice, prawn crackers and noodles, We all got into small groups to go around different tables and taste the food. We discussed the color, smell, texture, and what it tasted like. Some of us really liked all the different Chinese food, some of us only liked certain Chinese foods, We all tried the food and then got into a circle to deliver our verdicts to what was our favourite. After our Chinese tasting we all went into the KS1 hall to do some Chinese dragon dancing we each strips of coloured paper and listened to instructions on what to do. We all then listened to the music and moved around the hall in different ways. We have had a great morning celebrating Chinese New Year!!
