Year 6 Spring Term 2017
Gymnastics
In our gymnastics lessons we have been practising our partner balances. This week we had to adapt our balances so that they incorporated some equipment. We all had different but excellent ideas. Next week we will be refining our moved and improving our routine.
World Book Day
World Book Day was great fun! Children came in dressed as characters from books and looked amazing. There were some impressive costumes ranging from Harry Potter to Fantastic Mr Fox. Even the staff enjoyed dressing up! A chef came in to make some book inspired dishes which were delicious!
Our visit to Safetyworks!
We had a fantastic time at Safetyworks in Newcastle! The place was set up like a real town and we walked round in groups learning about different aspects of safety. There was so much to learn about metro safety, anti-social behaviour, the police, first aid and fire safety!
Order! Order!
In Literacy we have been learning about debates, discussion and persuasion. In groups we have been looking at issues and considering 'for' and 'against' points. Then we carried out a debate with a judge and jury and we all got a chance to vote. There were some excellent counter-arguments. Well done!
Investigating Heart Rate
In Science we have been learning about our vital organs and looking in more detail at the job of the heart and how it works. To test our theories, we investigated how exercise affects our heart rate. We designed our own investigations and had great fun carrying them out!
Easter Symbols
We have been learning about the different symbols of Easter in our RE lesson. We have looked at the egg that symbolises new beginnings and the stone that blocked the entrance of Jesus tomb. The flower shows us a sign of new beginnings and growth and the dove shows us peace to all. We have enjoyed learning about these symbols and using them in our art lesson too where we used the technique of pointillism to decorate our symbols. It has been great learning about religious symbols of Easter.
