Welcome to Year 6's Summer Term 2017
Athletics
This term in P.E. we have been practising our athletics skills. So far we have learned the correct way to jump hurdles and have refined our throwing skills using javelins, vortexes and shot puts. We are ready for KS2 Sports Day now.
Orienteering
As part of International Week, we took part in an orienteering exercise. Using a map of the school and reading the key, we had to hunt down the locations of some questions. All the questions related to capital cities and we had to find the answers. It was good fun.
Derwent Hill
We all had an amazing time at Derwent Hill in the Lake District. It was fun trying new activities but most of all learning to take more risks and have new experiences no matter how scary they may be. Year 6 were a credit to the school. Well done!
Gangsta Granny
As an end of SATs Week treat, Year 6 visited the Sunderland Empire to see the David Walliams' book Gangsta Granny performed on stage. The show was really funny and we all had an excellent time (especially when Miss Kitchen got dragged on stage!)
A French Picnic
One gorgeous afternoon Year 6 made a picnic of French food and found a shady spot on the field to try some new foods. We had baguettes with cheese and ham, chocolate brioches and some grapes. After our picnic we played some traditional French games of boules.
Sports Day
The rain held off long enough for us to enjoy our final Sports Day at Blackfell. All children put huge amounts of effort into their events, scoring points for their team and we all had a great day. Well done to our winners - Willow!
All about France
To start our International Week on France, we looked at the country of France. Using atlases, maps and ipads we identified the major rivers, cities and mountain ranges. Then we looked at some famous French landmarks and practised drawing these.
Bibliobook!
On Thursday afternoon a French lady called Nathalie came in to school and she brought with her her French library bus. We enjoyed exploring and trying on some costumes. Then we completed some challenges where we had to find clues in French books. Thank you Nathalie.
Forbidden Corner
Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Forbidden Corner using the money they have raised this term. It was a fantastic and soaking day with mysterious surprises round every corner. We were glad we brought spare clothes to change into!
