Year 5 Autumn 2022-23
Welcome back Year 5
Year 5 have settled back into school very well this term. We have enjoyed spending some time exploring how we would like our classroom to be this year and how we are going to achieve that.
French Greetings
During French we have been expanding our knowledge of French greetings. We enjoyed writing out our own conversations with our friends where we learnt how to say hello, what our name is and ask someone else there name.
Passwords and Image Editing
During Computing we have been learning about secure passwords. We spent some time learning how to make a secure password and then completed a quiz. We also discussed image editing and how this can be dangerous online.
Who are Muslims?
Our new unit in RE is all about learning about Muslim faith. This lesson we developed our understanding of the religion and looked at statistics from our local area.
Anti-Bullying Week
To celebrate Anti-bullying week we all came into school on Monday wearing odd socks showing it is good to be differenet. We then spent some time looking at different scenarios thinking about what we would do and who we can talk to if we are worried about bullying. We then completed a guided reading activity looking at what bullying is.
Library Visit
To help encourage and develop our love of reading we visited the school library to select a reading book for in the classroom. We then decorated our own bookmarks to use when we are reading.
Still Life Art
This week during Art we have been developing our understanding of still life art. We spent some time looking at how colour can be used and different techniques to make our art look 3D through shading.
Mayor's Christmas Card Competition
We have enjoyed getting into the Christmas Spirit early this week. We have been developing our own ideas for the Mayor's Christmas Card Competition. Our creative skills were amazing and we came up with some excellent ideas.
Bike Ability
We had a fantastic week completing our bike ability. We enjoyed a classroom session learning about road safety and then we took part in different bike activities to prepare us for going on the roads.
Children In Need
To celebrate Children In Need we came to school dressed in our Children In Need accessories. We looked amazing dressed in yellow with Pudsy ears and spots to celebrate the day.
Gymnastics
Our new unit in PE this term is gymastics. During our first lesson we have been learning about asymmetrical and symmetrical holds. It has been very exciting to learn these holds.
The Sun
During our Earth and Space unit in Science we have been investigating the sun. We have been learning about the relative sizes of the earth and moon and comparing them to the size of the sun.
Halloween Disco
What a fantastic night we had at our KS2 Halloween Body Rock Disco. We all looked amazing in our fancyt dress costumes and showcased our excellent dance moves.
Bike Ability Presentation
Mrs Watkins visited us today to presnt our bike ability level 1 and 2 certificates. We were so pleased to receive our information booklets, badges and certificates showing what we had managed to achieve this week.
