Our Fun First Week in Nursery
Welcome to Nursery.We have had a fun filled first week in Nursery! We have been exploring our new indoor and outdoor environment.We have been making new friends and learning new routines.We are all settling in well and are having so much fun! Take a look at the activities we have enjoyed so far this week.
Exploring The Outdoor Environment!
We have been exploring our outdoor environment, there are so many things to do, from riding on the balance bikes, scooters and trikes, to learning how to climb the climbing frame all by ourselves! Some of us have been playing in the sand and water and also digging in the soil to see what we can find! We love outdoors! Take a look at the different activities we enjoy every day.
Meet the Family
For our first literacy job of the year we sat with Miss Hepplewhite and drew and talked about our family. We practised our gross and fine motor skills, showed preference for a dominant hand and gave meaning to our marks. When we drew our family we then attempted to write who each person was. Some of us could even hear initial letter sounds. We enjoyed doing our job this week and can not wait for our job next week!
What makes you happy?
This term in school we are looking at the elephant and what he represents. He teaches us all about good relationship and being happy. In our small group time we have been talking to Miss Hepplewhite, Miss Forrest and our friends about what makes us feel happy and showing hay faces. Miss Hepplewhite and Miss Forrest asked us different questions:

What Makes This Sound?
We have been using our listening skills again in Nursery this week. First we got into our small groups , Miss Hepplewhite and Miss Forrest had a special bag with different objects inside. We listened to the sound and then took it in turns to identify what the object could be! We came up with some great answers. Take a look at us enjoying our fun activity.
Be Safe, Be Fit, Be Healthy Week
We are having a very exciting week in Nusery celebrating Be Safe, Be Fit, Be Healthy week. Take a look at some of the exciting activites we have been taking part in.
People who help keep us safe!
As part of our 'Be Safe' 'Be Fit' 'Be Healthy' week, we have been learning about people who keep us safe. We talked about their job roles and how important they are in our community. We got the opportunity to dress up as the police, fireman, doctor, nurse and many more, take a look at our dressing up fun.
'Safety Patrol'
This week in Nursery Miss Hepplewhite and Miss Forrest took us on a safety walk throughout our school. We put our safety hats and safety vests on and we called ourselves the Safety Patrol!. We walked around our school making sure everything was safe for our friends and our teachers, We held doors open for our friends, we talked about how we walk down the stairs safely and sensibly, we made sure all of our cloakrooms were neat and tidy. We did a great job patrolling our school, We look forward to keeping our school safe at all times!. Take a look at us on our safety walk.
'A Surprise Visit'
To end our fabulous week 'Be Safe' 'Be Fit' 'Be Healthy' week, we had a special visit from two local police community support officers Paul and Martyn, they talked about their important job role and how they keep the people and the community safe! We were so excited as we got to try a police hat and police jacket on it was so heavy!. We got our picture taken with Paul and our teachers! A big thank you to Paul and Martyn we really enjoyed your visit!
Ordering Numbers
We have been working hard on number recognition and ordering this week. We looked at the number pictures cards and if we could not recognise the number we counted the picture to find what number it was. We then ordered the cards from the smallest to the largest. We had a fantastic time ordering numbers.
Sparkler Delight
In Nursery this week we have been learning about Diwali,and how they use fireworks as part of their celebrations, we decided to make sparkler/firework biscuits as we were also celebrating Bonfire Night. We got into our small groups and listened to instructions on what we had to do. We started with melting the chocolate which our teachers did for us! We then took it in turns to get a small breadstick and dip it in the melted chocolate, we then sprinkled lots of hundreds and thousands on the top of the biscuit so it looked nice and colourful. Once the biscuits were ready we got our coats on and went outside with our friends to have our sparkler biscuits we even had hot chocolate too! they were delicious.Take a look at us making and enjoying our yummy biscuits.
Children In Need 2016
We have had a busy time in Nursery this week as we have been preparing for Children In Need. Firstly we made our Pudsey headbands, then we worked very hard in decorating our cakes to sell at Blackfell's cake sale! On Children In Need day we came into school all dressed up in our Pudsey accessories we looked fantastic! We had a great morning visiting our cake sale and choosing a cake to eat with our friends they were delicious! We would like to thank everyone who donated to this fantastic cause! Anti-Bullying Week
Well what a busy time we have had in Nursery celebrating Anti-Bullying week. We took part in many activities such as making friendship bracelets for our special friends in Nursery, also we got to go outside and play with the big parachute we played some great games in which we worked together as a team! To end our celebrations we all played a part in making yummy friendship doughnuts we used blue icing for the top of the doughnuts as we learnt that the colour blue represents 'Friendships'. We have all enjoyed our fun activities and most importantly learning how to be a special friend! Take a look at our pictures having fun and enjoying our great Anti-Bullying week.
Festive Shape Friends
We have been creating our very own festive shape pictures using different 2D shapes. When creating our picture we talked about the different shapes we were using and their features. We then decided what part of our character they would create. Can you guess our festive characters?
Diwali Lanterns
Take a look at our Diwali Lantern creations, We started of by bringing in our own special jar from home, we glued lots of different coloured paper over the outside of the jar, we then used different materials such as sequins ,ribbon, coloured rice to decorate our jar. Our Diwali Lanterns are so colourful, they will shine brightly in our homes over the festive period.
'A Special Treat'
We were so excited in Nursery as we had a special treat, Andrews Magic show was coming to visit us in our Key Stage 2 Hall. We all got to sit with our friends and waited for the show to begin. We laughed, clapped and joined in Andrews magic tricks and games, it was so much fun! We would like to thank Andrew for such a funny and magical afternoon.
What an achievement!
A special mention to one of our Nursery children Cameron Sheriff who took part in the Mini Great North Run on Saturday 10th September. Cameron ran 1 mile alongside his brother Graysen who is in Year 1 and their mam and older brother sean. What an achievement cameron we are so proud of you!
Our First Visit To The Library
In Nursery this week we had our first exciting visit to our school library. We really enjoyed looking at all the different books, we then got to choose a book to take home and share with our grown up's.Our teachers read us a story and we spent some time talking about the books we had chosen. We are so looking forward to visiting our school library every week!.
Let's Investigate!
What a fun week we have had in Nursery! We got into our small groups and went exploring our school grounds looking for different materials to put in our investigation box. We found many things such as different coloured leaves, twigs, acorns, conkers. Once we gathered our materials we put them in our investigation box. We sat in our small groups and our teachers gave us some magnifiying glasses so we could have a good look at what we had found, we talked about what they looked like and how they were different to each other. Our Listening Walk
Listen, what can you hear? This week in Nursery we have been on a listening walk, We got into our small groups, we had our listening ears ready, and went exploring our indoor and outdoor environment listening for different sounds. There were many sounds around us, We could hear cars, aeroplanes,the wind, leaves rustling, wind chimes,our busy school office, children playing and many more. Pastalicious
Chop Chop Chop was the sound in Nursery this week. For our cooking activity we were making pasta! First we washed our hands and got into our small groups. We had our one handed tools at the ready and began to chop our vegetables, we talked about what vegetables we were adding to our pasta, what they looked like, and how they were different to each other. Once our pasta was ready, we got to sit with all of our friends to eat our yummy pasta, it was delicious mmmm.
Getting Around
What an action packed star to our Be Safe, Be Fit, Be Healthy week! we have been exploring how we can move differently using the equipment on the yard. We set up our own obstacel course and practised taking turns, balancing, climbing and jumping. We have been working our leg muscles on the bike, playing bat and ball with our friends and practising walking up and down stairs. We have enjoyed exploring movement.
' Go Bananas'
In Nursery this week we have been keeping fit! firstly we went into our school hall and found a space. We all listened and watched the interactive whiteboard for instructions on what to do!. We explored different types of movement, running, jumping, hopping and many more. We had so much fun our hearts were beating so fast! we really did 'Go Bananas'.
'Smoothie Making'
We had an exciting morning in Nursery, as we met Nic The Chef. Nic taught us all about foods that were bad for us! and foods that were good for us!. We tried different foods like popcorn and cereal and we had to describe how they tasted. We then got the opportunity to help Nic make a healthy fruit smoothie, we cut up bananas blackberries and blueberries, and we added orange juice and apple juice, once it was all blended together, we sat with our friends and drank the fruit smoothie it was delicious! .Thank you to Nic The Chef for a fun healthy morning.
Step-a-Thon Celebration
Congratulation Nursery!
Today we received our certificate for participating in our school Step a Thon challenge. We stepped a on average 4680 steps in our busy morning. Well done everyone and thank you all of our family and friends for you generous donations.
Autumn Term 2
Friendship Disco
We had a great time at the Friendship Disco this week. We danced with our friends in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. We sat together with our friends to eat our hotdogs, sweets and pop. We all had a fantastic time at the disco, we cant wait for the next one so we can show of our dancing moves again.
Diwali Sweet Time Fun!
To end our topic and celebrations of Diwali. we decided to make some Diwali sweets! We got into our small groups and listened to Miss Hepplewhite and Miss Forrest as they told us how we were going to make the sweets. We had our ingredients ready, first we mixed together some condensed milk, coconut and icing sugar, We talked about what it looked like and how it felt, Once the ingredients was mixed together we put some in our hands and rolled it into a ball shape it was so sticky but smelt lovely! Our Teachers then put our sweets into the fridge to set, Once they were ready we all sat together with our friends and ate our delicious sweets they were yummy! Sorting Friends
We have been celebrating Anti Bullying Week in Nursery this week and we have been talking all about our friends. We had to think of different ways we could sort our friends into two groups. We sorted them by boys and girls and then by our small groups. It was great fun sorting our friends.

Santa's Little Helper
To kick start our Christmas festivities in Nursery, we had an exciting and magical afternoon, as we were of to see the production of Santa’s Little Helper! We got to sit with our friends on the bus and we couldn't wait to arrive at the Washington Arts Centre. Once we got there we were shown to our seats and got ready to watch the show! We had so much fun singing and joining in. We would like to thank Washington Arts Centre for an amazing production.
'Oh Christmas Tree'
We were very excited in Nursery as our big Christmas tree had arrived in our key stage 1 hall! We were invited to bring in our own special bauble from home so we could decorate our tree. We had great fun choosing which branch our baubles were going to go on! Our tree looked all bright and shiny when we had finished.
Christmas Craft Fun
Glitter paint sequins were all around nursery as we began our Christmas tree decorations! We started of by carefully painting our wooden decoration, once it was dry, we began to decorate using different materials, What festive characters can you see? We couldn't wait to take them home and hang them on our Christmas trees.
'It's Party Time'
It was Nursery's Christmas Party morning and we were so excited we were all dressed up in our best party clothes! We all went into the Key Stage 1 hall where we played lots of different games such as pass the parcel, musical statues, and many more, We danced the morning away with our friends it was great fun! We were really hungry after all the partying we had done so we got to sit with our friends we each had a special bag with our party food in it was yummy! Take a look at us enjoying our Christmas Party it really did put us in the Christmas spirit.
We Love Healthy Snack Time!
In Nursery we love healthy snack time, We have a different snack everyday, from apples to oranges, bananas, tomatoes and even raisins! We also have milk and water to drink and we are even beginning to pour it ourselves! Once we have had our snack we choose our special picture, the girls are ladybirds and the boys are bumble bees! We then put our picture in our snack basket and that lets our teachers know we have had our healthy snack. Take a look at us enjoying our snacks and drinks.
Let's Decorate!
What a fun week we have had in Nursery. We have been decorating biscuits in our small groups, First we had to wash our hands making sure they were nice and clean, we then got our own biscuit and learnt how to spread the icing using one handed tools. We then got to decorate our biscuits using different toppings we talked about how the toppings all felt different to each other. Once the biscuits were ready our teachers made us some strawberry milkshake and we got to sit with our friends and eat our biscuits. Take a look at our pictures of us enjoying our yummy biscuits.
Nursery to the Rescue!
There has been an alien invasion in Nursery and only our mini heroes can save us all!
We created a patchwork alien by rolling a dice, counting the spots and putting the corresponding number of squares on him. We each waited and took our turn. Don’t worry though!
We are here to make sure he doesn't do anything bad!
Super Literacy
We have been talking about our favourite superhero and drawing them. We have been working on our pencil grip and crontrol and exercising our writting muscles. We all like different heros and we enjoyed talking about them, what we thought they ate, where they lived and what their special power was. We have created some super work!
Hook a Duck
We had some visitors in our water area in the shapes of ducks. These ducks were very special, they had numbers on the bottom. We took it in turns to fish a duck from the water and have a go to identify the number. We then had to go fishing and fish out the corresponding number of gems from the bottom of the pond. We enjoy practising our counting skills.
Counting Conkers
We have been working on number recognition and couting out a certain number this week. We found a giant basket of conkers and decided the best thing to do was practise our counting. We are doing really well counting in order.
Healthy Eating Bingo
This week in Nursery, we have been playing a fun game of Healthy Eating Bingo!. We got into our small groups and we had our bingo boards at the ready. We had cards with different pictures of healthy food we took it in turns to pick a card and shout out what it was! the first person to match all the cards to their board was the healthy eating winner!. 'Hoopstarz'
It was time to 'Be Fit' again in Nursery but this time we were using hula hoops! We all had a go at learning how to use a hula hoop, We learnt how to stand correctly so the hula hoop didn't drop to the floor, we had so much fun! and tried so hard at learning new tricks. We even got to play a game where you had to roll the hula hoop and then run and catch it!. We had a fun and fit morning we didn't realise there was so much you could do with a hula hoop! Mendi Hands
We have enjoyed celebrating Diwali with our friends. We have been practsing tracing and copying our names to create our own Mendi hands. We have been working hard on our pencil grip and control. We have created some lovely patterns using sequins and gems. Have a look at our hands they are beautiful.
Nursery Rock Stars
We had a fantastic time recording our songs for Blackfell Primary Christmas CD. We enjoyed working with Chantelle and felt like we were in a real recording studio. We have microphones and we sang fantastic. We can not wait to hear ourselves and the rest of the school on our CD.
Spot Prize
Congratualtions to Ava and Rhiannon who recieved the attendance spot prize in Nursery. They both recieved a lovely prize.Well done!
My Friend Is . . .
We have been carrying on our celebration of Anti Bullying Week in Nursery. For our literacy this week we have been talking about our friends and what makes the a good friend. We began our activity by thinking about our friends and choosing which friend we wanted to draw. We then drew them and thought about the colours we would be using. When completed we talked to Miss Hepplewhite about why they are a good friend to use and what makes us a good friend. We are great friends in Nursery.
Christmas Writing
We have been creating and writing out our own Christmas cards for friends and family. We have been working hard on writing our name carefully, looking at letter sounds and letter formation and attempting to write our friends name or family’s name. We have enjoyed creating a magical scene on our Christmas card. We have enjoyed the start to our Christmas celebrations.
Nursery's Christmas Sing Song
What an exciting morning in Nursery as we were giving our family's a special treat as we were performing in our Nursery Christmas sing song! We all looked fantastic dressed up in our different costumes, We all sang along to the songs we had learnt, some of us were even dancing! We had so much fun!! We are definitely super stars in the making!
Christmas Wreath Ornaments
Continuing our festive craft fun, we were making Christmas wreaths, We had a small plate and we painted it green once it was dry, we could choose to stick glitter sequins or red buttons on to our wreath. We were excited to show our family's what we had made! Take a look at us enjoying our craft activity.
