Nursery Autumn 2023-24

Welcome To Blackfell Nursery!

We are so pleased to welcome back some of our children who will be spending another year in Nursery with us all! We are also excited to welcome some new nursery friends into our setting. All children have settled so well into their Nursery in the first week of the Autumn term. Take a look at our photographs which show what we have been up to in our first week - we have enjoyed exploring the different areas of the classroom and have also had fun playing outside in the outdoor area.

Creating Our Faces

We have been making our faces this week for a classroom display. The children were given a paper plate and painted the plate pink for their skin colours. After the paint had dried the children were able to choose their own resources from our creative area which they wanted to use to make the different features of their face. Everyone has done such a good job at making their faces! Well done everyone.

Disco Time!

Nursery and Reception enjoyed joining Key Stage 1 for their Autumn disco. They all enjoyed the flashing lights and dancing with their friends to the music. Before home time, all of the children enjoyed hotdogs, crisps and a drink. There was some fantastic dancing!

Anti Bullying Week

Our focus story during Anti-Bullying week was Elmer. We talked about how Elmer was different to the other elephants and how sometimes people were unkind to him because of this. The children explained how this would make them feel if people were unkind to them because they were different. We then talked about how being different isn't always a negative experience and how it can be good sometimes. The children then went into the play dough  area and made their own version of Elmer. The children practiced their core skills such as; rolling, cutting, pressing and moulding. They all made their own, unique Elmer!

Festive Friday!

The children all look great dressed in their Christmas clothes and accessories. We are all very excited for Christmas and for Santa to come on Christmas Eve!

Christmas Cards

The children have enjoyed making a Christmas card for a person of their choice. They had a choice of three designs and made the card themselves. They then sat with an adult to write out their insert where they had a go at writing their name.

Outdoors!

During our first week in Nursery we have discovered that we have a fantastic outdoor area! This area is full of different zones for us to play and explore. Here are are pictures of us playing with the sports equipment, on the scooters and cars, building in the construction site, dancing on the decking area mark making on the giant chalk board and also story telling in the reading hut.

Outdoor Listening Walk

In Phonics we have been learning to use our listening ears. We have all been inside and outside on listening walks - listening to sounds we can hear. We compared indoor sounds to outdoor sounds. On our outdoor listening walk we heard car engines, car horns, birds singing, dogs barking, people shouting and the wind howling. We have all got excellent listening skills!

Halloween

We have had a fantastic time celebrating Halloween in Nursery. We have enjoyed dressing up in our classroom in the role play area and have had a pretend Halloween tea party in our home corner. We have also decorated our oranges in the snack area to make them look like pumpkins. We shared the story 'Pumpkin Soup' during carpet time and we have also made and decorated some bat biscuits together. We all sat on the carpet after making the biscuits and enjoyed eating them together. They were delicious!

Decorating The Christmas Tree

We are all working together this morning to put up and decorate our Nursery Christmas tree. The children took turns to add baubles and decorations to the tree. They used words like 'beautiful' and 'colourful' to describe the tree.

Christmas Dinner!

Nursery and Reception have enjoyed a very festive day. They came together to share Christmas lunch with each other. There was even a drop in visit from Santa!

Our First Trip To The Library

Every Friday we have the opportunity to visit our school library. This is when we will select a book to take home for the week to share with our families. The following week we will return the book and get to choose another one. This is very exciting as it gives us the opportunity to share stories at home with our loved ones. We really enjoyed our first trip to the library and we all chose a very fun book to read!

Autumn Soup

The children in Nursery and Reception have been having lots of fun this week making Autumn Soup. We made the water orange to remind us of Autumn colours using yellow and red food colouring. We then added items which you might find in Autumn such as; conkers, sticks, leaves, apples and pine cones. The children described what the taste would be like and also what the soup looks like. We thought of some ideas how we could warm our soup up before we pretend to eat it. The children also enjoyed emptying and filling bowls with the soup and used whisks to stir it around.

PE - Transport!

In PE this week we have been acting out being different types of transport. We were all airplanes, trains, cars and buses. We all done really well at acting out the different modes of transport. We then copied a video of a child doing different movements to a song. We copied the child's movements and kept in time with the rhythm and the beat.

Fun in The Snow

The Nursery and Reception children have been so excited to see the snow falling over Blackfell. We all got wrapped up warm and had a morning in the snow. We made snowmen, snow angels and threw snowballs. We enjoyed feeling the snow and talking about how it feels soft and freezing. We talked about what snow actually is and where it comes from.

Christmas Calendars

The children have all been getting creative this week and have made their own calendar for 2024 to take home. They picked the colour for their heart and stuck some buttons on their heart to decorate it.
